About the Book

Sample a free excerpt

Inside each seemingly ordinary person is an extraordinary story waiting to be told.

That’s what author Keith Maginn discovered when he dug deeper to learn more about many of the people in his everyday life.

One friend had overcome an addiction to crack cocaine.

Another had lost a son in a tragic accident and started a foundation in his honor.

Yet another was a survivor of the worst plane crash in Central American history.

Each of the stories featured in (Extra)Ordinary will touch your heart, stir your soul, and open your eyes to the amazing people who are all around you.

You’ll learn to look for the incredible in the seemingly mundane, and you’ll be reminded that everyone—including you—is anything but ordinary.

“This book shows you that no matter how much we plan, life doesn’t always happen the way we want it to, but that doesn’t mean that we should give up. These people show us that the human spirit is resilient, courageous, and strong.”

“Keith Maginn is back, showing us what it’s like to see through the lens of the heart. I recommend this book to people who understand—and are ready to quietly celebrate—that in our everyday lives, we encounter friends as well as strangers who are making their way through adversity, but doing it so gracefully that we don’t realize what challenges they have been up against. These amazing people offer us an appreciation of life itself, which we see more clearly when they come into focus through Maginn’s eyes. This book has just the right balance of pathos and objectivity to sustain the reader’s attention. Set aside a couple of hours to read it. You may see the people you know in a different light.”

Infused with joy, simple wisdom, and hope, (Extra)Ordinary: Inspirational Stories of Everyday People is a collection of long vignettes about the lives of everyday people. Whether overcoming adversity or tremendous loss, to taking a leap of faith, I was able to find some connection with each person. Told with exceptional kindness and empathy, the stories impart tremendous hope. It will cause you to look upon those you know with fresh eyes. At the end of each story, the author gives you information on charitable donations that can be made in honor of the person who has shared their story.”

“It’s possible to continue moving on, no matter what happens in life and what twists and turns your life takes. I think that’s the lesson to be pulled from this book, that no matter how hopeless life may seem at the present moment, if you just continue to look forward and press through, you, too, can turn a new leaf and begin again. … (The book) got me to remember that I can face the mountain of issues I have and climb over if I take just one step at a time.”
